Paphiopedilum Alliance - the "Lady Slippers"

Paphiopedilums are part of the Cypripedioideae subfamily

The Cypripedioideae subfamily is comprised of the following genera and hybrids Cypripedium, Mexipedium, Paphiopedilum, Phragmipedium and Selenipedium. This group is made up of mostly terrestrial orchids with some growing lithophytically and a few epiphytically. Plants are characterized by having flowers with a pouch like labellum which gives them the nick name "lady slipper" orchids. Defferent genera are native to different areas around the world and can be found from pole to pole with the exception of Antarctica.
